‘Accidents will happen’ and ‘A child is not a small adult’
Two characteristics for Pediatric Trauma Surgery.
It is part of the development of children of any age. Children are always challenging their limits. Minor or very serious injuries can occur at any time, at any age, from small to large. That is what makes children unique: one minute they are deathly ill and the next minute they are alive and kicking. They cry and then they laugh. In children, these characteristics strongly determine the presentation of symptoms and signs after injury. Therefore, treating children requires specific knowledge and experience. It is essential for the practitioner to recognize these dynamics and to get the child laughing happily and playfully again.

Our mission is: “Let children with injuries be treated as optimally as possible, by displaying knowledge and skills about pediatric traumatology by Dutch specialists to international standards.
Because Nelson Mandela’s wonderful, characteristic statement, “A better society will and must be measured by the happiness and welfare of its children,” applies to the Netherlands as well.
